About Me

About Page Family

I’m Andy. I live in Winchester and I make a living from investing in property. I have a supportive wife, two amazing children, awesome friends, and a line of work that allows me to spend most of my time with them. I consider myself very lucky.

My Story

I had a rewarding and challenging career as a soldier in the British Army, and in 2013, I decided to leave after 22 years service so that I could spend more time with my family.

Not having a full time job was strange to me at first, but I started to focus strongly on building a property portfolio. The question I kept asking myself was – could I really replace my salary with a passive income from property?

Why Property Investing?

I had previously become, what is commonly referred to as ‘an accidental landlord‘. Alison and I owned our own home in Newbury Park, Essex, when we were young and carefree!! Alison worked at Birchanger and I was based with the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards in Aldershot. I lived in barracks during the week and travelled home at weekends.

When Alison fell pregnant with Jake in 2003, we decided to sell and move into service accommodation so we could support and raise our son together. Alison’s work had recently restructured, which meant that she would travel more throughout the South East of England, but also meant she wasn’t tied to one location, so it worked out quite well for us – especially for me!

Our fear, was that if we didn’t remain on the housing ladder we would struggle to get back on it in years to come, so we used the equity from the sale to buy investments. And that’s basically how we got started. With little research, we purchased 2 properties in Winchester as we had family there and it was also a location that we hoped to settle in when the time was right.

Fast forward 10 years and I reflected on our investment experience. We had accumulated positive cashflow year on year, had few void periods (no more than 2 weeks a year) and a large amount of capital growth. My future career was set!

So Why The Monoperty Blog?

When people ask me my line of work, and I tell them, I’ve noticed that at least 3 out of 5 tell me that they would love to do what I’m doing. They sometimes refer to TV programmes and they like the idea of working for themselves. Other’s tell me they would like to invest whilst they are still working to build a nest egg for the future.

With this blog, my primary aim is to inspire people who have an interest in property to get started. I want to be as transparent as possible with everything I do. My business, my strategies and my income – it’s all out there for you to see.

I’m not trying to show off my success – that’s definitely not my purpose, and there are people out there who do far better than me. But whether your thinking of starting, or whether you’re already in the property business, I hope my experiences – both my wins and my failures – can help you reach your goals.

If you’re not currently involved with property but thinking about it, you can see what it’s like, see what’s involved and make decisions on your own without having to pay someone and be subjected to the possibility of false claims and wasted money.

And finally, please read this carefully:

I don’t consider myself a property investor guru, my techniques are not secrets and the kinds of things I discuss are not “get rich quick” schemes – far from it.

This is why you won’t see me offer any paid courses – not because I don’t want to help, but because honestly most of the information I could give you can be found for free here on my blog, on my YouTube channel or elsewhere online. If you need some help figuring stuff out, just use my contact page to send me a message and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Earning any type of income from property can take a lot of time, hard work, a lot of patience and a little bit of luck too, although I honestly believe we create our own luck!

I know I have an inspiring story and I am here to inspire you too, however I want to do it the right way. I speak only from my experience and please don’t feel like you owe me anything because of it. This is my way of paying forward the amazing things that have happened to me over recent years.

You won’t get any hard sells from me or long sales pages – just real life case studies and recommendations based on my own experiences with investing in property and being a landlord.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope to see you on the blog sometime soon!

All the best,
